Yesterday in Pittsburgh a Duck tour showing coal executives around town for the International Coal Conference was interrupted briefly by a little dance brought to them by the folks with the PA Alliance for a Coal Free Generation and the Sierra Student Coalition.
Pittsburgh PA – Decisions made at the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh will
have far-reaching implications for billions of people around the
world. But a billion people who live in the world’s smallest and
poorest countries have no representative at the table. And hundreds
of millions of other desperately poor people who live in the emerging
powers have little assurance that their concerns will be represented.
Summit aims to address this problem. Participants in the panel—current
and former senior officials, plus leading experts and advocates for
global poverty reduction—will offer a variety of perspectives on the
G-20 response to the global economic crisis and the challenges ahead,
with a focus on the well-being of the world’s poor. The panel is sponsored by the Center for Global Development, a
Washington-based think tank, the poverty-reduction advocacy campaign
ONE, and the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and
International Affairs. The event begins at 12:00 pm ET at the University Club of the
University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Louis Picard, a professor at the
Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at University of
Pittsburgh will moderate the discussion. Who:
Tim Adams, former Under Secretary for International Affairs,
Department of Treasury
Nancy Birdsall, President, Center for Global Development
Donald Kaberuka, President, African Development Bank,
David Lane, President and CEO, ONE Dr. Louis Picard, Professor, Graduate School of Public and
International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh, moderator When: Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 12:00 pm ET Where: University Club at the University of Pittsburgh, Ballroom B,

Here is an email that was just send out by Dan Onorato’s campaign. Not really sure what the point of this email is – maybe something like – hey you should be excited about the G20! Also interesting that the header is “DAN ONORATO: Democrat”
Dear friends:
This week, Pittsburgh’s renaissance will be on full display as my hometown hosts leaders from the 20 largest economies as the G-20 meets there. We’ve worked very hard to prepare for the two-day meeting and I am excited for Pittsburgh to receive the recognition it deserves.
But even before the meeting starts, being selected to host the G-20 has already given Pittsburgh an opportunity to shine and show the world how far it has come since the difficult days of the 1970s. As the Washington Post wrote on Sunday, “As locals know, the ‘Burgh’s latest incarnation, clean and green, pulls its rivers, hills and past into a handsome present.” The city’s rebirth has been featured in magazines, newspapers and radio and television shows across the country.
This is a big week for Pittsburgh and the entire southwestern Pennsylvania region. As a Pittsburgh native, city resident and as Allegheny County Executive, I could not be more proud. We could not have gotten here without the hard work of thousands of people. Everyone owes them a debt of gratitude.
Sincerely,
Dan
P.S. I will have some big announcements coming up in the next few weeks, but until then, thank you for all the support you have given me already and I look forward to seeing you soon.
