Rudiak gets endorsement in Beechview; Matt H gets schooled

In many ways, the race to represent district 4 on Pittsburgh’s City Council is largely shaping up to be a fight between Natalia Rudiak and Anthony Coghill.

A week ago, the community group Pretty Up Beechview announced their endorsement of Natalia Rudiak.

From their endorsement:

It is not the time for petty squabbles, empty suits, empty promises, or bureaucratic pencil pushing. Politics as usual, or even worse, backsliding is what we will get unless we all step it up and support Natalia Rudiak for City Council in District 4. Natalia understands us – she knows who we are and where our communities need to go now, and in the future. She understands that the neighborhoods are the city and that the city needs to strongly support its neighborhoods.

Blogger Matt H–who is working for un-endorsed candidate Anthony Coghill–was upset that his candidate did not win this endorsement and took exception in the comments to their post:

Did you even reach out to the other candidates?

and

How have you publicized your events/meetings? I was disappointed that it didn’t seem any other candidate was even considered for this endorsement.

One-by-one, several Beechview residents piled on to defend their decision.  Here’s a sampling:

Max:

[...] It is the candidate’s job to reach out, and as I see it, my job to make a decision based on their actions and words.

Our group, simply put, picks up trash and plants gardens, and the only candidate that has come out and worked with us (on multiple occasions)is Natalia. [...]

Rachel:

[...] I am dissapointed that the other candidates haven’t made an effort to reach out to our group.

and

[...] Natalia is the only candidate to attend our PUB Crawls and events. She even brings her own crew. She comes on her own accord and supports our efforts and encourages other to do the same. [...]

Bethany:

[...] It’s an open invitation to anyone interested in volunteering and bettering Beechview. That’s how we have been pleasantly surprised and blessed to have community members such as Ms. Rudiak and police officers of Zone 6 and even people not from this community at all come out and lend a hand. Completely on their own accord. That speaks volumes.

And finally, Rivers…:

Simply put, it is not that we are against the other candidates, it is just that we are for Natalia. She has gone the extra mile to understand what we are interested in and where we would like our community to go in the future. She has shown us the motivation and energy that is needed to move Beechview forward. I am not saying that the other candidates lack this, only that they have not shown it to us, or the community at large. We want to work with ALL of the candidates. Above all else, we want to see our community, our district and our city succeed.

The P.U.B. members who posted here couldn’t be more clear.

  1. I got schooled? Far from it. I was curious about the way they came about their endorsement. Beechview would clearly be better off with Anthony Coghill in that District 4 seat. He is the only candidate from Beechview and his biggest platform piece is to revitalize the Broadway Avenue corridor. Coghill is the only candidate who can be entrusted to take care and look after the Beechview area of the District. That is a fact that can never be denied.

  2. Sorry, Matt, but there are plenty of people who actually live in Beechview (unlike you) who believe that Rudiak would be better for the neighborhood. Your candidate may be from there, but that doesn’t mean that he’s got the vision or experience to be an effective leader.

  3. Guess we will see on Election Day who Beechview believes in.

Anyone who underestimates Coghill in Beechview will run a losing campaign for sure.

Why does it matter that I don’t live in Beechview? My girlfriends family lives there in the heart of Beechview and I spend a lot of time there.

Does not living there disqualify me from something?

  4. FYI No groups from Carrick are endorsing Natalia. She has pushed her way into many groups in Carrick for the past couple of years and even the 29th Ward Dems (Natalia is their treasure) won’t endorse her. HMM That’s because she spent the last few years stepping on toes, backstabbing and making enemies in the community. She learned how to fake it for votes in Carrick before “looking” helpful in Brookline and Beechview. Carrick would welcome any candidate that is about District 4′s future and not just personal gain. Candidates, please come out here and rally for votes, Natalia is not loved in Carrick. So Matt pass this word on, and I hope Beechview gets the chance to see the real Natalia before they vote. If she gets elected Beechview will no longer matter to her, guaranteed! “J” Wolf in sheep clothes beware!

  5. Thanks for the words.

  6. Dude, there haven’t been any groups from Carrick who have issued an endorsement.

There haven’t been any from Brookline either. And the only one from Beechview has been PUB, so you could just as easily say that Rudiak has received all of the endorsements from Beechview.

And, as Coghill has pointed out many times, the party endorsement was rigged. So, yeah, it really doesn’t matter who won that vote at the end of the day, does it Matt H?

  7. It’s all over Rudiak…nighty night.

  8. I get a kick out of Matt running scared. He’s all about backing the “winners” and yet he just hangs out with “winners” that are 100% losers. He says Pat Ford is ok, Has pics of him and Dennis Regan on his blog and in his eyes, Ravenstahl has never done on thing wrong.

So when he says Coghill is the right guy for the job, I immediately see red flags. Lots of little red flags.

    Think about it.

  9. Just saw on http://www.heinz.cmu/edu that Natalia said she was the co-founder of PUB!!! What about that!!!

  10. http://www.heinz.cmu.edu/news/news-detail/index.aspx?nid=946

That’s not a quote, anom. Looks like some imprecise sentence construction in the article.

  11. Hey, learn to read here is the quote.

Natalia is currently the Vice President of the Carrick Community Council, co-founder of the Carrick-Overbrook Historical Society and Pretty up Beechview, Treasurer of the 29th Ward Democratic Committee, and an active community leader in south Pittsburgh.

It is what it is. She will be 3rd place tomorrow.

    • That’s not a quote from Natalia. That’s written by the author of the article. When Natalia is saying something, it is surrounded by symbols that looks like this: “.

  12. Coghill was crushed!!!

“Guess we will see on Election Day who Beechview believes in.

Anyone who underestimates Coghill in Beechview will run a losing campaign for sure.”

Perhaps you could address this? Oh, you closed down your blog. Too bad.
