More Ravenstahl foolishness

Luke and Ben, from the Post-Gazette

The Trib reports on Mayor Ravenstahl’s visit to the President today:

Ravenstahl said he had a 30-second conversation with Obama after [Obama's] speech.

“I told him I would look forward to coming back with the Steelers when they visit the White House,” Ravenstahl said.

Traditionally, Super Bowl winning teams visit the president.

I am going to say this in all caps, because the many times it has been said before don’t seem to have sunk in:

Mayor Ravenstahl,

Luke,

Pal,

Me boyo,

YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER OF THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS. YOU ARE NOT ON THE TEAM. YOU DO NOT WORK FOR THE TEAM. YOU HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS WINNING THE SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR, AMUSING BETS AND NAME-CHANGE STUNTS NOTWITHSTANDING. YOU DO NOT GET TO GO WITH THE TEAM TO MEET THE PRESIDENT, WHO YOU DIDN’T SUPPORT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Are we going to have to stage some kind of city-wide intervention with the mayor to cure him of this delusion?

Aside: in writing this post I came across one of the most inane mayoral quotes I have seen in a good long time, and wanted to share it:

“Pittsburgh is a city of trees, so we’re betting a tree for a tree, even though theirs is a cactus,” Ravenstahl said in a news release.

One of those releases that Ravenstahl wrote himself, no doubt.

Of course, if the best thing that the mayor could think of to talk to the President about was football, we may be looking forward to a future of a great deal of inanity.

  1. Pittsburgh super saver

    from CNN (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/02/20/obama-shines-stimulus-spotlight-on-urban-economy/)
“If a federal agency proposes a project that will waste that money, I will not hesitate to call them out on it, and put a stop to it,” he added.

But, he noted, “I want everyone here to be on notice that if a local government does the same — I will call them out on it as well, and use the full power of my office and our administration to stop it.”

Yet – Luke the $1100/trash can mayor – talks to the president about the Steelers. The country is in the middle of an economic crisis that the president calls mayors to washington and Lukey uses his 30 seconds not to talk issues but to talk football.

  2. I know of another local Mayor who jumped on the Obama bandwagon very late in the game….

Actually, most Mayors were pressured by the Guv to support Hillary.

I do know of one local councilman who came out early for our new President. Maybe there still is HOPE in local politics.

  3. OK…..It is time to kick the cage and wake up the Pittsburgh Voters !!!! Million dollar election fund ?? PAY TO PLAY fund is more like it !!! Show Dan’s Intern the door, time send Luke elsewhere to play and git his pichtur taken.
