Uh oh, that’s not a good sign (plus poll!)

What is the surest sign you are on the wrong track in Pittsburgh politics? Well, it might be when Matt H starts to like you:

I had a sit down with City Councilman Bill Peduto yesterday and came away even more impressed with the man than I previously was. Peduto has his finger right on the pulse of this city. Peduto is one hell of a councilman who knows the issues probably better than everyone. Peduto was very helpful towards me and provided me with some information to help the communities around me. Peduto is being faced in the spring primary by challenger Christine Stone. Peduto is planning on running a full time campaign and plans to not take anything for granted. I predict a big Peduto victory.

One thing that I can say about Peduto is that he does a great job on council. Whether it is dealing with developers or residents the guy is just caring and compassionate and gets the job done. Peduto always tries to find a fair common ground that can be accepted by both sides. You got to love that.

I will say this about Matt, you can always count on him to locate someone’s flaws and become totally convinced that their character is the opposite. Peduto the consensus builder? Really?

Thinking about this puts something, as Myron might have said, heavy on my cranium.

Feel free to discuss strategies for him in the comments. It is pretty clear he could use some help.

  1. Should he happen to be so inclined, Peduto could be outright determinative in Pittsburgh politics. His votes against the 2009 budget provide a clue. He has already proven once that he can set aside his own ego and the politics of personality, maybe he will be so moved again.

Besides that, I think he can bring local politics to a lot of people who aren’t interested in it, if he can be innovative, persistent and canny.

  2. Peduto is relevant in Pittsburgh politics and will continue to be.

I have always liked Peduto. Never had a problem with him.

The more I get to know him the better I like him.
