Old School thinking – Onorato’s A Fan of the MFX

Well it looks like the Regional Chamber Alliance’s email and meeting were successful because this was title of the article in the Trib:

Onorato take lead for the county leg of the Mon-Fayette road

“The Mon-Fayette will provide linkages and open up old industrial sites to jobs and commerce in the south, and its Squirrel Hill bypass will provide important traffic congestion relief to Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs.”

So it is one thing for the Chamber Alliance to support this sort of backward thinking on economic development, it is another for the Allegheny County executive to support the idea that building super highways is the best way to stimulate the economy.

I am really disappointed that this is Dan Onorato’s stand on the MonFayette  – for someone that is supposed to be creative and forward thinking about improving the region – this is the complete opposite of forward thinking.  Super highways are as old-school as it gets.  Haven’t we learned anything in the past 50 years – big roads don’t work.  Super highways don’t easy traffic, they create traffic.  Why aren’t we thinking about other modes of transportation.

If Dan Onorato wants to run for PA Governor he needs to show the rest of the state that he has creative ideas, that work for economic development – not supporting an old idea that is tooo expensive and has no funding source.   I don’t think that supporting bad ideas like the MonFayette is going to help Dan Onorato gain support around the state.

So it’s safe to assume the net minus 74,000 people in the “seven” county region….,
I mean “eleven” county region will be made up of immigrants driving
“late model” cars (those that leak more oil).

And, the other 22 per cent of the 65 age plus group, that makes up a BIG percentage of the region, will have a driving disability. (“meaning they have to get sombody else to drive them”, and may or may not be Penguins fans)

I suppose what I can’t understand about the MFX is the direction that it points.
Are we going to start getting our stuff from South America, Mexico, or West Virginia?

Because the Asian ports are in LA? I guess the stuff is going to come up the Ohio from
the Mississippi. I guess they plan on taking the cars/clothes/furniture/flowers (tax generators) off the barges in Hazelwood or North Side? Then transfer it along and deliver it to each corridor highway North, South, East or West to region counties.

The “Region” does not need another study group within another Commission or Bureau, to reassemble the data that the US Census Bureau & the National Surface and Transportation Study Commission spent three years creating.
Did anyone at the Sustainable Hearings hear the FHWA three years ago say,
“We’re out of Money!” “You’re not going to find any money in Washington”.

Furthermore, since the sub-prime crisis (which by the way, is not a new issue),
my property is likely worth 20% less than the current assessed value.
Yes that’s right! And, this equates to 20% less property tax receipts for “authorities & officials” to play with.

So Lil’ Luke & Dan (and entourage) will be off traveling in Asia & Europe looking for foreign money.

I think they should stay put, and just make a videoconference call to Detroit or Jamestown New York!!!!!!!!!!! Pittsburgh’s not the only village in the world with a robotics center.
I guarantee that they can make this type of call to Tokyo or Taipai.

We can print our money in the US. So if my tooth paste comes from Nairobi or Abuja,
it’s going to cost me $22.00 U.S. after the highway tolls, gas tax, and import fees are added to the cost via Norfolk or Baltimore.
